Thomas Preuml, CCM, CCE, Chief Operating Officer of the Houston Racquet Club in Houston, TX, was named Manager of the Year by his peers of the Texas Lone Star Chapter (TLSC) of the Club Management Association of America (CMAA).  This prestigious award is given annually to a club manager who exemplifies professionalism in club management and embodies the characteristics, ethics and standards toward which all practitioners of club management should strive.

A native of a small village in Austria, Mr. Preuml made his way unaccompanied to the United States in 1984.  He worked his way through kitchens and restaurants, learning the English language along the way.  His work ethic and leadership skills propelled him to “front of the house” roles with Club Corporation of America.  After nearly 20 years managing corporate clubs, Mr. Preuml was named C.O.O. of the Houston Racquet Club in September of 2008.  Under his leadership, the Houston Racquet Club has been rated among the Top 50 clubs by Tennis Magazine and was named Organization of the Year in 2008 by the United States Tennis Association.

TLSC President, Casey Newman, CCM, explained, “Thomas’ genuine personality and kind spirit has not only resonated with the 200 plus employees of the Houston Racquet Club but also the club’s leadership and general membership.  You will rarely meet a more enthusiastic, compassionate leader who truly personifies the spirit of this prestigious award.”

Mr. Preuml joined the Club Management Association of America in 2006.  In 2013, Mr. Preuml earned the designation of Certified Club Manager (CCM), CMAA’s hallmark professional certification.  After joining CMAA’s prestigious Honor Society in 2018, Preuml achieved the designation of Certified Chief Executive (CCE) in 2019.  He is a Past President of the Texas Lone Star Chapter of CMAA (2018) and serves on the Board of Directors for the Texas Alliance of Recreational Organizations (TARO).  Preuml, CCM, CCE is the ninth recipient of the Chapter’s Manager of the Year Award.

The Texas Lone Star Chapter will honor Mr. Preuml during the Chapter’s Fall State Meeting Awards Dinner at the Austin Country Club on Sunday, November 17, 2019.
